some groups have not wanted to work with us. some groups are bigger than us. we might be stealing their intellectual property. we do not feel that way. we have openly shared the best practices. i think that having those tools is one part. having good people behind it is another. from year to year thinking through how of the event will sustain itself is important. frankly, i think that some of those events moved away because there were opportunities better than what san francisco was offering. we can talk to how -- talk about how to award events that are doing well. financially, etc. we should try to look at ways to reduce the costs. >> can i jump in? i did not mention that i was a deejay, because that is not newsworthy, but i am part of the team that puts that on. to clarify, we moved to oakland last year because we really did not feel welcome in san francisco. the hurdles put in front of us to do our event were so extensive, it became impossible to produce a successful the event. sadly, that happened again this year. hopefully we can come back next year. than

can you tell us about your experience? >> there were a lot of anticipation about how people would respond. at first, we had to get in front of people to direct them from their habits. early morning, they are more into carrying their coffee and going inside of the elevator and then spilling their coffee to hit the keys. we got right in front of them, stopped them and told them exactly what they had to do. that helped out a lot. the other thing that helped were the lights in the lobby would tell them where the elevator was. a lot of these systems have not done that. we were the first to do that. the nice thing is we've got less spills in the lobby, too. you get into the elevator in the morning, and somebody is standing in front of the buttons and you cannot get to it. people are fighting each other, spilling coffee and stuff, so this works out well. once you get inside, you are going to the floor that you have already decided on the outside. it really helped traffic flow and security as well. >> would you say your experience

there's no conditional use requirement to have this. a lot of people today want to have food, drink, and be able to have some music. how can we get the limited live entertainment excluded from the know amplified or no live entertainment excluded on the transfers? >> that is going to mostly driven locally. most of the conditions you'll ever see on an abc license are because we rely, to a great extent, on the police department and local officials to determine what is best for their communities. i'm not trying to pin this on you guys or blame you guys, but we do try to work with you. we do not tend to want to overrule the police department very often. now that said, i get a fair number of petitions and appeals to me. typically, they are from the neighbors. i want to see that there is actually a practical problem posed -- that the condition is there to solve, not that this is the way the things have been or maybe there's someone who is satisfied by what is potentially wrought by having live entertainment. it is always a case by case. genera
